Jewelry Making Class in Albuquerque : The Double Teardrop Ring
Our Double Teardrop Statement Ring jewelry making class in Albuquerque. It was a hands-on day of bezel making, forming, soldering, and stone setting, with each student creating a sterling silver ring in their own style.
The fun started with choosing the stones. Some students paired bright turquoise, while others went for darker stones or unexpected color combinations. With two stones side by side, the pairing became an important part of each design.
Choosing the Stones
For many students, choosing the stones was one of the most exciting parts of the day.
The two teardrop-shaped stones create a natural focal point, and each pairing brought a different look to the finished ring. Some combinations had strong contrast, while others brought together colors and patterns that complemented each other.
Even with the same ring design, everyone's choices made the finished pieces unique.
From Stones to Silver
Once the stones were chosen, students got started on the sterling silver work.
They made the bezels for their stones and worked through forming and soldering to build the ring. With plenty of time at the bench, students could focus on each step and see their individual pieces begin to come together.
Setting the Stones
With the silverwork finished, students moved on to setting their gemstones.
The stones really brought each ring to life. Turquoise created a bright, colorful look, while darker and more neutral stones gave other rings a completely different feel.
It's one of our favorite parts of teaching at Meltdown. The same project can take so many different directions once students begin making their own design choices.
The Finished Rings
After the stones were set, students finished their rings by oxidizing and polishing the silver.
By the end of the day, the benches were filled with finished double teardrop rings in all kinds of stone combinations. Each one reflected the student's choices, from the stones they selected to the details they added along the way.
And that's what makes making your own jewelry so rewarding. You leave with a piece you can wear, along with the experience of having made it yourself.
