Make it at Meltdown: Everyday Turquoise Band

This Monday, Meltdown Studio welcomed a special group of visitors for our Everyday Turquoise Band class, a hands-on jewelry-making experience rooted in the spirit of the Southwest.

The group had traveled from across the country while their partners attended a nearby conference. Rather than simply passing the time, they chose to craft a day filled with creativity, connection, and local flavor. Their afternoon began with lunch next door at D.H. Lescombes Winery & Bistro, then continued with a private session in our studio.

Upon arrival, the group stepped into the bright, welcoming space that is Meltdown Studio. Surrounded by tools, torches, turquoise, and the hum of shared anticipation, they dove into learning how to solder, shape, and finish their own sterling silver turquoise bands.

Throughout the session, there was laughter, focus, and lots of questions; alongside the unmistakable thrill of working with metal and stone for the very first time. Each guest created a one-of-a-kind ring, and the results were as distinct and vibrant as the group itself.

By the end of the workshop, hands were polished, jewelry was complete, and the pride was undeniable. Rings were slipped onto fingers, photos were snapped, and the joy of accomplishment was shared all around.

More than jewelry, what each guest took home was a lasting memory: a story tied to the textures and techniques of metalsmithing, and a physical reminder of a day well spent in Albuquerque.
