Shaped in Silver | Arroyo Rings from the Studio

There’s a quiet shift that happens when students sit down at the bench for the first time, and an even deeper one for those returning, a little more familiar, a little more confident. At the start of our Make It at Meltdown: Arroyo Rings class, there’s always a mix of curiosity and hesitation. Hands feel unsure, tools unfamiliar. But as the process unfolds, that uncertainty softens into rhythm.

Working with sterling silver, students learn by doing, shaping, forming, and responding to the material as it moves. Each step builds on the last. A simple strip becomes a band, texture brings it to life, and slowly, intention takes form. There are small missteps along the way, moments that don’t go as planned, but those are where the learning settles in.

What makes the experience meaningful isn’t just the technique, but the connection that forms between maker and material. There’s a growing sense of when to guide the metal and when to let it lead.

By the end of the session, what once felt unfamiliar becomes something they’ve worked through with their own hands. Each Arroyo ring carries that journey. Some bold, some organic, all shaped by the person who made them.

The finished pieces are something to be proud of, but it’s the experience of making them that truly stays.
