Southwest Studio Sessions - Refined Surface: Contemporary Form || Repoussé Stamping

  • Meltdown Studio 901 Rio Grande Boulevard Northwest Suite E-130 Albuquerque, NM, 87104 United States (map)

We’re excited to continue Meltdown Studio’s Southwest Studio Sessions, an immersive workshop series led by guest artists from across the Southwest. Each session offers focused, hands-on learning rooted in experience, innovation, and a deep connection to material.

This upcoming workshop features Chris Pruitt, known for his precision tools and bold, modern designs. Raised in Laguna Pueblo and based in Paguate, New Mexico, Chris brings a contemporary approach to silversmithing grounded in strong technical skill. Mentored by his brother Pat Pruitt and Charlie Bird, his work blends fabrication, texture, and refined finishing.

In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how clean, precise metalwork is achieved through stamping, repoussé, and elevated finishing techniques. Chris will share his approach to layout, tool control, and surface refinement, insights rarely taught in traditional settings.

You’ll practice these techniques before creating a heavy sterling silver cuff bracelet, thoughtfully formed, sized, and finished with a clean, modern aesthetic. Along the way, you’ll build confidence in creating dimension, improving accuracy, and making intentional design decisions that elevate your work.
