A Weekend of Silversmithing: Reticulated Turquoise Ring Class in Albuquerque

Last weekend, Meltdown Studio welcomed two groups of students to our turquoise ring class in Albuquerque. One group joined us on Saturday and another on Sunday, with each group spending the day learning hands-on silversmithing techniques while creating their own sterling silver turquoise rings.

The project began with reticulation, a technique that gives sterling silver its distinctive, organic texture. As students carefully heated and worked the silver, each band developed its own unique surface, making every ring one of a kind.

Once the bands took shape, students moved on to soldering and creating bezels for their turquoise stones. The stones added a bright touch of color against the textured silver, and each finished ring began to reflect the style of the student who made it.

Although everyone worked on the same project, the finished rings had plenty of individual character. Some featured subtle textures, while others developed more dramatic surfaces, and the natural turquoise stones brought their own variations in color and pattern.

That hands-on process is what makes a turquoise ring class in Albuquerque at Meltdown Studio special. Students get to practice traditional silversmithing and jewelry-making techniques while creating something they can take home and wear. By the end of the class, a simple piece of sterling silver had become a finished reticulated turquoise ring made by its own creator.
