Gemstone Shield Cuff Jewelry Making Class in Albuquerque: A Weekend at the Bench
Our Gemstone Shield Cuff Jewelry Making Class in Albuquerque welcomed two separate groups of students to Meltdown Studio last weekend. One group joined us on Saturday, and another gathered in the studio on Sunday. Although the classes took place on different days, both groups explored the same project and followed the same creative process from start to finish.
The benches quickly filled with sterling silver, gemstones, and plenty of excitement. The shield cuff immediately stood out as a project with strong lines and endless possibilities. Students began by forming their cuff bracelets, learning how a simple strip of metal could become a piece with both structure and movement.
As the day progressed, the bracelets started to develop their own personalities. Some students incorporated bronze borders into their designs, while others focused on the contrast between sterling silver and colorful stones. The combination of layered metals, darkened details, and vibrant gemstones gave every bracelet a distinctive look.
There was a lot happening throughout both classes. Students cut and shaped metal, soldered layered components, built bezels, and carefully considered the placement of their stones. The photos captured many of our favorite moments, from focused work at the soldering station to the smiles that appeared as each project came together.
One of the highlights of the weekend was seeing students try on their finished cuffs. Side by side, the bracelets revealed just how much creativity can grow from a shared project. Even though everyone worked from the same design, no two pieces looked exactly alike.
That is one of the things we love most about teaching Jewelry Making Classes in Albuquerque. The techniques may be the same, but every student brings a different perspective to the bench.
By the end of both classes, students left with bold, handcrafted gemstone cuffs that reflected their own style and the skills they had developed throughout the day.
