Alicia Williams: Inspired by New Mexico, Rooted in Community
“I can’t remember when I first started at Meltdown,” Alicia Williams reflects with a smile. “I tried out several learning experiences with different instructors and studios in Santa Fe, Rio Grande, a jewelry supply, and with Kirsten. I think I saw an advertisement for Meltdown and scheduled a class. It was instant love.”
From that very first class, Alicia knew Meltdown Studio was something special. She connected immediately with the instructors, fellow students, and the creative energy of the space. “Quite frankly, Meltdown is an addictive experience,” she says. “You can’t take just one class.”
Building Confidence Through Classes
Have you ever felt nervous to try something new? Alicia did too. Over time, her confidence as a jewelry artist has grown with each class and new challenge. She now specializes in cutout jewelry art, a style not often seen outside of Native American silversmiths.
Soldering is still her biggest challenge, but she refuses to let it stop her. Even as her vision has changed over the years, Alicia continues to find inspiration and momentum through the supportive Meltdown community. “Taking classes keeps me inspired, so I take as many as I can. The enthusiasm and energy of the studio keeps me going. The instructors are the best.”
Inspiration from New Mexico
Where do you find your creative spark? For Alicia, much of her work is inspired by the beauty of New Mexico. “The trees, mountains, animals, and flowers inspire me,” she shares.
During her career, Alicia traveled extensively across the state. Though she has since retired, those memories remain vivid and continue to influence the artistry in her jewelry designs.

Advice for Aspiring Jewelry Artists
Thinking about pursuing jewelry-making yourself? Alicia offers thoughtful guidance:
“Learn as much as you can in all areas. Find what is unique about your talent and use that as your foundation. There are many jewelry artists, and the field is full of wonderful jewelers. Don’t forget to learn the business aspects too. This part may seem boring compared to the art, but it is essential for success. This is not an easy business, so you have to love what you do.”
Alicia’s journey reminds us that with passion, persistence, and the right community, jewelry-making can be more than an art. It can become a lifelong source of joy, growth, and connection.
