Fall Leaf Earrings: Jewelry Making Class in Albuquerque
Our Fall Leaf Earrings jewelry making class in Albuquerque brought students to Meltdown Studio for a hands-on experience creating autumn-inspired earrings from sterling silver, copper, and natural stone cabochons. Offered on two separate days, the class welcomed two different groups of students, each exploring cutting, forming, stamping, texturing, soldering, and stone setting while creating their own pair of leaf earrings.
Although everyone started with the same design, each pair developed its own character through the students’ choices of metal, texture, and stone. The result was a collection of handmade earrings full of autumn color and individual details.
A Creative Day at the Bench
The studio came alive as students settled into their workspaces, gathered their tools, and began shaping their metal. Some carefully worked on the outlines of their leaves, while others focused on adding texture to bring the delicate forms to life.
As the project progressed, students practiced new techniques and worked through each step at their own pace. There were moments of careful concentration as they handled small metal components, refined their designs, and prepared their pieces for soldering. With tools spread across the benches and instructors nearby to offer guidance, students could focus on learning through hands-on practice.
Bringing Each Leaf to Life
One of the most satisfying parts of the class was watching flat pieces of metal develop into recognizable leaf shapes. Students cut, formed, and textured their designs, adding details that gave each leaf its own sense of movement and character.
The combination of copper and sterling silver created a beautiful contrast, while natural stone cabochons brought color to the finished designs. Some students leaned toward warm, autumnal tones, while others explored different combinations to make their earrings feel more personal.
Soldering and stone setting required patience and attention to detail. As students worked through these stages, they could see how each technique contributed to the final piece. Making the ear wires added another handmade element, allowing students to shape their earrings from the leaf forms to the finishing touches.
Two Days, Two Groups, Unique Creations
The Fall Leaf Earrings class was offered over two separate days, with a different group of students attending each session. Each group shared the experience of learning new techniques and creating the same seasonal design, but everyone brought their own ideas and approach to the work.
The finished earrings reflected those individual choices. Textured copper leaves, sterling silver details, and colorful stones came together in different combinations, making each pair distinctive. Seeing students try on and show off their finished earrings was a lovely reminder that even when everyone starts with the same project, no two handmade pieces need to look alike.
That is one of our favorite things about Make It at Meltdown. Students come to learn new skills, but they also get the satisfaction of making something personal with their own hands.
Handmade Jewelry with an Autumn Feel
The Fall Leaf Earrings combine the warmth of copper, the brightness of sterling silver, and the color of natural stones in a lightweight design inspired by the changing seasons. Throughout the class, students explored a range of jewelry-making techniques, including cutting and forming, stamping and texturing, soldering, stone setting, ear-wire construction, oxidizing, and polishing.
Every stage helped transform the original metal into a finished piece of wearable art. We loved seeing each group make the design their own and leave with earrings that reflected their creativity and the time they spent at the bench.
