From Bench to Finger: The Stories Behind Our Keepsake Rings
There’s something quietly powerful about seeing a room full of hands gathered around the bench. Each one arrives with a different story, a different level of experience, and a different idea of what they hope to create.
This past weekend, we hosted two sections of our Keepsake Ring class, and the studio quickly filled with the warm rhythm of metalsmithing. Torches flickered, tools moved across the bench, and students focused intently as simple strips of sterling silver slowly transformed into finished rings.
Looking at the photos from the weekend class, what stands out most is the variety. No two rings are alike. Some feature vibrant stones set proudly at the center, while others are more subtle, with clean lines and gentle textures. Each ring reflects the personality of the person who made it.
Special hands held newly finished pieces up to the light. Others rested on the bench, still a little dusty from filing and polishing. Rings were tried on, admired, and shared with neighbors at the table. There were smiles, small moments of pride, and the quiet satisfaction that comes from creating something with your own ideas and effort.
These classes are about more than learning technique, though plenty of skill-building happens along the way. Students practice forming, soldering, shaping, and finishing silver, gaining confidence with each step. By the end of the day, they leave not just with a new piece of jewelry, but with the knowledge that they made it themselves.
What makes the Keepsake Ring class especially meaningful is how personal each result becomes. Whether bold and colorful or simple and refined, every ring carries a little piece of the maker’s story.
And as the photos show so beautifully, those stories are worn proudly on the hand.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the bench. We loved seeing your creativity come to life, and we can’t wait to welcome the next group of makers into the studio.
