Intro to Lost Wax Casting: Christmas Morning in the Studio

Our Introduction to Lost Wax Casting class this past weekend felt like Christmas morning in the studio, filled with excitement, anticipation, and a bit of magic.

From carving the first piece of wax to polishing the final metal, the process was a beautiful mix of art, science, and patience. Students shaped and refined their wax models using heat tools, carving blades, and hand files to bring their ideas to life. Every piece was unique, from sculptural rings to delicate pendants, and it was amazing to see each design take shape.

When the waxes were ready, we moved on to the main part of the process: investing and casting. The room was full of energy as the molten metal was poured. That moment never gets old. When the molds broke away to reveal the finished pieces, it truly felt magical. What started as soft wax had become something strong, lasting, and bright.

The final stage was cleanup and finishing. Everyone cut, filed, sanded, and polished their castings until each piece caught the light perfectly. Seeing the smiles and pride on everyone’s faces as their creations appeared was the best part of the day.

Lost wax casting is one of our most hands-on and rewarding classes. It takes time, focus, and teamwork, which is why we only offer it once a year. But every time we do, it reminds us how special it is to share this process with our students.

If you’d like to join the next Intro to Lost Wax Casting workshop, let us know. We’ll make sure you’re the first to hear when it’s back on the calendar. It’s an experience you’ll never forget, and we can’t wait to share it again soon.
