Stamped Zia Necklace Jewelry Making Class in Albuquerque | Summer Mini-Series at Meltdown Studio
Our Stamped Zia Necklace jewelry making class in Albuquerque brought students into Meltdown Studio for a hands-on evening of stamping, sawing, soldering, and stone setting. Each student created a finished copper and sterling silver necklace with a turquoise cabochon while learning foundational silversmithing techniques in a relaxed, small group setting.
Our Mini-series class gathered into that feeling easily. No rush, no pressure, just a group of people ready to make something with their hands and see where it takes them.
This month’s project, the Stamped Zia Necklace, carried a quiet kind of familiarity. A New Mexico classic, reimagined through each person who sat down to work. Copper and sterling silver warmed under torch light, turquoise stones passed from hand to hand, each one catching someone’s eye for a different reason.
There’s always a moment in class when things shift. When tools start to feel less foreign. When the rhythm of stamping, filing, and shaping begins to settle in. You could hear it in the room. Soft taps of metal, small laughs, conversations drifting between process and everyday life.
Some students leaned into bold textures, stamping with intention and letting each mark stand out. Others kept things minimal, letting the stone speak for itself. No two pieces came out the same, and that’s always the point.
By the end of the evening, what started as flat metal had turned into something personal. Necklaces that feel easy to wear, but even better to have made. Pieces that will likely become part of someone’s everyday without much thought, and still carry the memory of how they came to be.
That’s what these summer classes are about: good people, honest making, and a little bit of quiet magic in between.
