Desert Stack Ring Class: A Little Piece of the Southwest
Last weekend, the studio filled with a quiet kind of excitement as a new group of students gathered around the bench for our Desert Stack Ring class. It is always a special kind of day when people come in not quite knowing what to expect, then slowly find their rhythm as the hours unfold.
We began with simple pieces of sterling silver and a table of carefully chosen stones, each one carrying its own character. As hands got familiar with the tools, the room settled into a steady flow of focus and conversation. Some students worked in silence, completely absorbed in the process, while others shared stories, laughter, and small victories as each step came together.
What makes this class so meaningful is how personal it becomes. Everyone starts with the same foundation, yet each set of rings takes on a life of its own. Some leaned toward soft, earthy textures, while others created bold finishes that caught the light. Turquoise was a favorite for many, its color instantly bringing a sense of the Southwest into each piece, while others explored different stones that reflected their own style.
For a few, it was their first time setting a gemstone, a moment that often feels both delicate and rewarding. For others, it was a chance to build on skills they had already begun to develop. No matter the experience level, there is always that turning point when everything starts to come together and the piece begins to feel real.
By the end of the day, the transformation was clear. What started as raw materials had become something thoughtful and lasting. Rings that can be worn every day, stacked together or mixed with pieces already loved, each one carrying the memory of the hands that made them.
Watching that shift never gets old. It is in those final moments, when students look at their finished work with a mix of pride and surprise, that the studio feels most alive.
We are so grateful to everyone who spent their weekend with us. Your creativity, patience, and openness made the day what it was. We cannot wait to welcome the next group into the studio and do it all over again.
