Jewelry Making Class in Albuquerque: Double Teardrop Statement Ring
Our Double Teardrop Statement Ring jewelry making class in Albuquerque on September 13 brought students together at Meltdown Studio for an afternoon of silver, genuine gemstones, and hands-on making. The class introduced students to bezel making, forming and soldering, stone setting, oxidizing, and polishing as they created their own sterling silver statement rings. Each student chose their own gemstone combination, making every finished ring unique.
Choosing the Stones
The class began with one of the most enjoyable parts of the project: choosing the stones.
The Double Teardrop design brings two gemstones together, so students could experiment with different colors, shapes, and combinations. Some were drawn to turquoise, while others chose darker stones or pairings with more contrast.
The photos from the class show students taking their time with this part of the process. Before the silver work even began, each person was already making choices that would give their finished ring its own look.
Getting to Work at the Bench
Once the stones were chosen, everyone settled into their workstations and got started.
The studio quickly filled with the sounds and rhythm of making. Students worked closely on their pieces, checked their progress, and asked questions as they moved through the project. Instructors were there to offer guidance and help students work through the details.
Some students were completely focused on their work, while others took a moment to look over their pieces or compare progress with the people around them. It was a busy afternoon, but there was still plenty of room to work at a comfortable pace.
The Moment It Comes Together
After hours of working at the bench, there was something special about seeing the students put on their finished rings.
The Double Teardrop design has a bold presence, while the two-stone arrangement gives each piece a distinctive look. The turquoise and darker gemstone combinations seen in class created beautiful contrasts.

No Two Rings Alike
Everyone started with the same Double Teardrop design, but the finished rings were all different.
Natural gemstones vary in color, size, and shape, and each student's choices changed the character of the final piece. The turquoise combinations brought bright color, while black onyx and other darker stones created a completely different feel.
That's one of the things we love about making jewelry at Meltdown. A shared project can still become something completely personal.
